Chapter Twenty-Five

When Missy walked into the bar and sat down next to Mel, she was greeted with enthusiasm by all the Team Twenty-Two members. Most of them were there and had been waiting for her to arrive. Les had announced she was on her way two hours earlier when they’d been having supper.

Missy was happy being back and in an excellent mood. Monday afternoon, Mike had brought her over to a big family event with her parents, her Granddad, all three of her siblings, her baby nieces, Heather’s husband Donald, plus several other relatives. Even Lila, one of Patrick’s two girlfriends had been there. (He’d have to spend equal time later with his other girlfriend, Sandy.) Tracy was busy at West Point, of course. Afterwards, she and Mike had enjoyed some alone time.

Mel leaned closer and said, “While you were away, Les and Marsha passed around some photos from Candace’s wedding. Too bad you have Mike under your spell and Tracy has your brother under hers. I’d definitely be trying to tempt them otherwise.” She giggled, knowing that was totally a lie. Big handsome, sexy, gorgeous guys weren’t really her type and they never seemed to be that interested in her. She couldn’t help the way she was. Since all the guys she was attracted to were easy enough to get into her bed, she was not unhappy.

Missy laughed, knowing the truth, and countered with, “Are you suggesting we need witchcraft to keep our men faithful?”

“Nah. But knowing about the man you have back at your McCrea Mansion, I’m thinking those full moon celebrations aren’t just about you going back to take care of your wolves.” Mel had finally managed to hear all the details about Missy becoming Alpha of the pack. “When most girls talk about it being their ‘time of the month’ … (she used her fingers to make air quotes), that’s all about them having their periods. You? You’re getting laid.”

Missy had to laugh at that since she and Mike had indeed enjoyed some great sex Monday night and just that morning, prior to her teleporting back. “Look at you, all healed up. I didn’t realize what a monster I was creating when I helped with that. What’s it been? Four weeks for you now?”

Mel looked at her watch and said, “Twenty-six days, four hours and ten minutes but who’s counting.” She knew that question was about her last time getting laid and not about her getting shot in the leg. “As for my last period, that was two weeks ago.”

“So, you’re probably ovulating right now,” said Missy. “Figures.”

Just then Staff Sergeant O’Meara came closer and asked, “Who’s ovulating?” He and the others hadn’t been able to hear what the two women were discussing.

“Not me,” said Missy. “Every time I Shift, my female cycle starts over. I won’t ovulate until fourteen days after that, assuming I don’t Shift again.”

“Ewww, that’s TMI. Sorry I asked.” Staff Sergeant O’Meara shook his head and pretended to be grossed out.
